Sunday Run-day {Bolderband Giveaway!}

I haven’t been able to run in about 2 months, and before that hiatus I wasn’t able to run much with the cold weather and 2 little girls. This Sunday however I have the Surgeons approval to start up again, and I get to do so with a fun new headband!

I won’t lie I like new gear and often its how I reward myself for various accomplishments. So when I knew I would need a little motivation during my time off I contacted boulder band and they not only sent me a headband to review they sent me one to give away!

So lets get right to it, I apparently have the weirdest shaped head in the world, headbands just don’t stay on. I thought I had found a brand, but after about my 4th run in it, I lost it during a run :( guess not. I’m happy to say that if I pull this boulder band  on to my forehead a little bit, it doesn’t budge! I’ve done tons of PiYo in it and it hasn’t moved at all! Check out this little video of some PiYo moves  (1. I’m super proud becuae I couldn’t do these moves when I started the program and 2. Ignore the crying babies.)

When it comes down to it, its a fairly straight forward design but I think the materials they use are what makes it quality, plus they have 4 sizes, which is probably the biggest reason they stay. Not to mention “Our bands are made right here in our small Colorado hometown by an incredible team of dedicated professionals committed to producing the highest quality product possible.” how do you beat that? I won’t lie, the prices seemed a bit high to me at first but if they stay on your head its worth it because your not wasting money on replacing headbands that fall off.

Want to win one? I’m giving away this pretty rainbow cheveron print in size s/m!

Local, Green Baby Shopping and Giveaway! {All Things Diapers}

I’m sooo excited you guys, a store I already loved just got even better. All Things Diapers in Blaine MN (A suburb of Minneapolis) just expanded, added new classes AND brought in some local Mom products!

1st off let me be clear this is not just a cloth diaper store,  they have baby carriers, consignment clothing for infants and maternity, toys, nursing accessories, teething items, and soo much more. Plus they have an online store!

The New Addition

The New Addition

Here are just a few of the new things that I’m excited for:

  • Classes This winter they are offering infant and toddler music classes as well as baby and me yoga….can I tell you how excited I am to do a music class with Apple? I hope the next one is offered on a Friday (hint hint).  They also offer free diapering and baby wearing classes!
  • Locally Made Products, they have teamed up with Let Joy to bring in some SUPER cute new cloth diapers and covers. They also teamed up with a mom for these great coat extenders for baby wearing! I’m picking up one of these this weekend. Also they can be used upside down to extend your coat when your expecting.

  • Consignment clothing, I won’t say I don’t buy anything new for Apple to wear but I will say that 95% of her clothing is used. I just don’t see a point of it honestly. The high cost (both money and manufacturing) for something she will wear for such a short amount of time seems silly. Plus they have maternity…so excited for this.
  • Cloth Diapers! They have old favorites like Gro Via and Bum Genius as well as some new companies like Tot-Bots! Pretty much any major diaper brand you can think of they carry.

Tots Bots

  • Swaps, not only do they sell and consign in store they host swaps every few months as well!

On top of all of that, these guys are just incredibly helpful. They will always take time to help and answer any questions. I wasn’t able to make it to a cloth diapering 101 class but I went into the store during the week and they took the time to explain all the different styles of diapers to me.  Another day I brought my Mom in and they showed us both the Moby basics, with a weighed baby doll to practice with!

Ok I’m cutting myself off there…but there will probably be another post about this soon…on to the giveaway!

 All Things Diapers has graciously offered a Blueberry wet/dry bag up for grabs and you get to choose the design! Wet/dry bags are good for much more than cloth diapers

  • Gym Clothes
  • Pool Days
  • Wet clothes
  • Camping
  • Dirty Laundry (Readers Suggestion)

Oral IV {Review and Giveaway}

As a runner I’m always looking for a way to stay hydrated, when in training simply not running on hot days isn’t an option. Now that I’m a mom I’m realizing that exercise isn’t the only thing leaving me dehydrated…. breastfeeding, caffeine and just general forgetfulness also contribute to this problem. However sports drinks aren’t the answer I’m looking for (too much sugar and chemicals) and my current hydration supplement is great for my short-mid range runs but I need something more for the long runs.

After a little research and a lot of talk from fellow runners I was interested in Oral IV, then I got the chance to review it! I didn’t tell the hubby it was coming and when he saw me open the package he was estactic. I didn’t know it but he had been doing some research himself in to hydration supplements (he doesn’t like my fizzy kind) for days he did extreme workouts or played softball in the heat.

So what is it?

” ORAL I.V. is a revolutionary hydration aid product based on a proprietary formula of crystalloid electrolytes and purified water. ORAL I.V. does not contain any sugars, caffeine or stimulants, additives, preservatives or artificial ingredients.”

What does that mean? Its something you take along with your normal hydration method (water) to help enhance its effectiveness.

Why use Oral I.V.?

Many hydration aids out there have long lists of extra ingredients that I don’t want to consume. What is the point of a lot of dyes and chemicals in my water? They aren’t going to help me stay hydrated and isn’t that the goal? Oral I.V. is made of natural ingredients and that for me is a big deal. Also it works.

My experience

I’ve used it while running and felt great before during and after, but its hard to ‘compare’ when you are using things one run to the next. However I get headaches when I’m dehydrated and the other day I got one bad. It was hot out and I was outside for a birthday party for the better part of 5 hours. I thought I did ok at hydrating but the next day I realized I was wrong. Right in the middle of work, BOOM pounding headache. Normally this would take me all day to remedy just drinking water however I happened to have a tube in my bag so I added it two my water. Two bottles later (48 oz) I was feeling great!

Bottom line

Because of the price personally I don’t think these are an everyday workout kind of thing. I think these are great for more intense workouts, really hot days, long  workouts/games/tournament days or anything else that can dehydrate you more than ‘normal.’ Personally I will be keeping some on hand for my 1/2 marathon training and long hot paintball tournaments.

Giveaway {Pro Compression Socks}

I’ve seen and heard a lot about compression socks since I started running, but I didn’t really get interested in them till I was pregnant.  About 1 month ago I noticed that I just wasn’t recovering after runs like I always have. My calves were feeling runs the next day, just generally tired and heavy and sometimes cramping. These are all things I’ve honestly never dealt with unless I was running over 10 miles.  Blah. After a little research in to ‘those compression sock things I’ve heard about” I found that sure enough they are great for recovery, why? Its pretty simple really they stimulate blood flow, helping your legs recover faster, bringing more oxygen to your muscles are always a good thing.

So I e-mailed Pro Compression to see if they would work with me on a review and giveaway, they said yes and quick as can be a hot pink pair of their Marathon Socks arrived in my mail box. I started wearing them as recovery only meaning after runs. Honestly since I only one pair I wanted to get a lot of use from them and sweating in them would mean washes and washes mean I don’t get to wear them. They felt great I could literally feel min legs start to tingle instead of ache, I couldn’t believe it!

Not to much later I had a day where my legs were so tired from heels at work that I couldn’t even fathom a run when I got home, but I decided to go for one anyway with my new socks on. I won’t lie it wasn’t my most comfortable run, HOWEVER  I made it through 2 miles which I never would have without them. here is the exact quote from Daily Mile that day. Check out that pace!!!!

” 2 miles with a dirty dog :D #sweatpink 2 mi 00:23 11:30 pace

Great run but I’m ready for non snowy trails! First run with my #procompression socks felt great!”

These lovely socks are also highly recommended during pregnancy. They can help with swelling, vein problems, circulation issues and are great for flying!

I have a special deal for you all, a coupon deal for Pro Compression Socks 40% off!!!  Just use the code  BLG13

My 1/2 Marathon Necklace {Giveaway}

Even before I ran my 1/2 Marathon back in May I knew when it was done I wanted a hand stamped necklace that I could where to celebrate that accomplishment. I hinted to Mac about it but apparently my hints wern’t bold enough so last month I took matters into my own hands and contacted Lynn from Oak Hill Designs, I’ve heard about her from a few friends on Facebook and wasn’t disappointed.

I found her iRun necklace right away but wanted just a little bit more, I messaged her asking if she could add another charm. After a quick response my necklace was in process and on its way! Isn’t it pretty?

Well guess what?!?! You can win one for yourself!

Don’t worry if you don’t run we have options keep reading:

First a little interview with the talented lady herself.

Tell me a little about yourself and your family.

I am married to my husband, tom and we have two children-ashton (18), who will be a freshman at the University of Iowa in three short weeks and a son, john (16) who will be a junior this fall. I also have a furry child-our cockapoo, tate. :)

How did you get started with hand stamped jewelry and what prompted you to make the jump to an Etsy store?

My mom saw a really cool stamped necklace in a mail order catalog and said, ‘lynn, I think you could make this.’ I ordered a stamp set and taught myself to stamp jewelry! :) I started on etsy after seeing an article in our newspaper. I knew I needed an internet page for my store and etsy fit the bill! I do also have a store on bigcartel.com.

What is your favorite piece you have made? Why?

My favorite piece seems to change often :) my two current favorites are the ampersand piece and the coin pearl cup. I love that all of my pieces are versatile and can be worn from daytime to evening to formal wear.

What make your product different than most other hand stamped stores?

I’m not sure that this makes me different from any other seller, but I never send out a piece that I wouldn’t wear myself. I have had requests for different pieces that I knew wouldn’t look the best and have gently steered my customers to something different that they would love just as much.

Amber here I will add that all of her items (I think all) are sterling silver not silver coted nickel this is a big difference in my opinion.

Anything else Fun?

I did quit my day job as a certified pharmacy technician in may of 2011 to devote myself full time to Oak Hill Designs. so happy I made that decision…I haven’t looked back once!
